Winning coach Thom Sigel, Rock Falls
``To borrow a phrase from a friend of mine who coaches in Dixon, `I feel like I just went to the dentist.' It was a struggle the whole night and I think the credit has to go to our guys that we survived. We just kept battling it and battling it and stepped it up on the boards. We had talked about it all week and I thought we did a good job of it. I don't know what the numbers are but the kids just hung in there.''
``We did a good job of limiting their second and third shots all night. These guys, especially Brian Vance, hit some shots to show why he was voted All-State.''
``Maybe that was the part that felt like they were extracting that molar. It took us some time to get the lead. It was just that type of battle. When we did finally get the lead we wanted to guard against celebrating too early. Providence is a great team and they just work and defensively took us out of what we wanted to do. The idea about celebrating was starting to creep in then they get the big steal and the scoring flurry.''
``We didn't execute at the end when we needed to and against team that quick you are either going to turn it over or not get good shots, which what we did most of the night.''
``Jorge (Acosta) is pretty quick to the hole and they were kind of crowding him. I kind of reminded him of a summer league game where he kind of stepped into his own as a sophomore. We talked about that this morning (Friday) to come with an attitude of take it at them and not back down from anyone. Early on I think he saw that they were shading Brian and Jed and it left the middle open. He stepped up and took advantage of what they gave us and hit some big baskets.''
``We got a couple of buckets from Jorge and that a great start for a sophomore point guard. I know he made some errors throughout the game but as he has in the past he more than made up for them. At the end of any our games this season his positives always outweigh the negatives.''
Losing coach Billy Garrett, Providence (St. Mel)
Coach Garrett suffered a blackout in the team's locker room following the quarterfinal loss to Rock Falls. He was awaiting the arrival of an ambulance and sent assistant coach Tim Irvin to be interviewed at the postgame news conference.
Assistant coach Tim Irvin - ``It was a tough game. We lost.''
