QUOTES AND NOTES
Winning coach Thom Sigel, Rock Falls
``It's a great feeling to win the state championship. I don't know when it will set in right. Right now I'm kind of numb.''
``These kids didn't give up. We struggled all night which is a tribute to Gibault. They are a great team and in some ways I really feel bad for them. But I feel extremely happy for our kids. They have worked hard all season, the last two seasons.''
``Brian stepped and took care of it (the winning shot). It was supposed to go (Jed) Johnson but when Brian put the ball up I wasn't concerned. Jorge (Acosta) gave us the spark with the two baskets then he gets quality steal to keep our hopes alive. This is a tribute to these kids.''
``When we finally got the lead I think it was the first time we had the lead. Gibault really took out of what we wanted to do most of the night. We tried to save the kids' legs as much as we could then made the moves at the end.''
``I'm proud of what these kids have done tonight and this season. They've worked their tails off and learned from last year. We've won the state championship. I can't say when it will sink in but I'm very happy now and there's very little that will change that.''
Losing coach Dennis Rueter, Waterloo (Gibault)
``It was unbelievable. We missed some free throws, made a few poor decisions but still played well for the game. Rock Falls made some big plays and Vance made a real big time play. But he'd had missed they probably would wished he had taken a better shot.''
``A game of this magnitude is so tightly contested it takes away the transition. Earlier games weren't as tight so we did get more that way. I thought Rock Falls was a good transition team but you didn't see them get many that way tonight.''
``Their guards are real good but I still think we did a super job on them. On the final travel call it was a real tough call.''
``They won the state championship but for our part there is nothing that I would do different.''
