QUOTES AND NOTES
Winning coach Gene Pingatore, Westchester (St. Joseph)
``What can I tell you. We knew we were going to have to deal with (Darius) Miles. I think we paid too much attention to him early and left other people wide open. We didn't want to do that and as a result we got down. Our game plan was to really help out on Miles but we couldn't let other people beat us.''
``I think in the first half we were allowing others to beat us. The other thing we didn't do is we didn't get after them defensively as much as we wanted to. I think we shied, I shied, away because of them throwing the ball down the floor. It made it very difficult to pick up people. We finally decided when we were down 11 points we had to extend the floor even more than we had earlier. And that seemed to get us re-energized.''
On Darius Miles - ``We knew he was good and everything we had heard about was true. With another year and some maturity and more bulk he'll be able to do about anything he wants. He was doing that tonight (Friday) but he'll probably be stronger next year.''
Losing coach Bennie Lewis, East St. Louis (Sr.)
``It's like I told them in the fourth quarter they would make a run. Three or four minutes into it they did. We went individual. If we don't go individual we'd have been alright.''
``We knew the double team was coming. We supposed to get rid of the ball before the double team came.''
``Out thing is to get into sets, get the ball down low to Darius (Miles) and everything comes off that. If it didn't we supposed to bring it out, reset and run it again.''
``When you don't follow the instructions that's when you run into troubles. We didn't follow the plan then we lost the ball three, four or five times. ''
On playing just five players - ``We are conditioned to play the whole game, all seven or eight guys that I use.''
