``I don't know what to say. I don't think we played very well today. It's not that I think we didn't play well. We didn't play well. We almost stunk up the place. I know when I get back to Chicago my good friend Taylor Bell is going to ask me what happened to us. But I was reminded that the same thing happened to me and my team in 1986. We were playing Evanston and we almost the first game.''
``We truly almost blew this one tonight. And I tell my buddy, Dennis Birkson, all the time that if you can't make your free throws in the fourth quarter when the game is on the line, you don't deserve to win.''
``Hillcrest is a very good team and they played very good game, they had a good strategy. We were not as patient today. I knew we wouldn't play as well as I would want them to play because we never do when we come off a big high in beating Westinghouse in Chicago. That was a big game and this was a big game, too.''
``You try to tell these kids they have to be ready, they have to be ready and they think they are ready. But sometimes they aren't ready and they can fall short. We got the `W' and they got the `L' and that's the most important thing. We gone through a lot this year but we've stayed together and I'm hoping we can make it the rest of the way.''
``If the high from Chicago hasn't worn off we'll be playing for third place.''
`` I thought our man defense was pretty good considering we have three bad ankles. I thought Imari (Sawyer) and Leon (Smith) did a pretty good job. And Rashid (Johnson) also did a pretty good job. Neither one of them is at 100-percent. Imari might only be 70-percent. You didn't see the real Imari Sawyer today. He's got a lot of heart but he has a torn ligament in the foot he's playing on.''

``I'm proud of the way the kids played, we handled King the best they could. (Leon) Smith is a big time player and he showed why even on a bad ankle. I thought the kids hung in there and had a chance to win.''
``As I told the kids after the game a bounce here and a bounce there, they miss one, we make one, we win the game.''
``We got lucky on the last second shot, I thought we walked. If we'd got lucky on that one, I'd taken it.''
